4 Disciplines of Execution

What is the book about as a whole?

  1. The book is about the 4 disciplines, the process, of improving an organization’s ability to execute a plan.

  2. The book is broken down to sections that talks about the theory, the practice, and implementation in one team, then multiple teams.

What is being said in detail, and how?

  1. Each discipline has been broken down and given example of what it looks like.

  2. There are also examples from real companies who have implemented the 4 disciplines of execution.

Is the book true, in whole or in part?

  1. I definitely think there are valid points such as discipline #3, keep a compelling scoreboard. People need to see the score to know what they are working towards and are we winning.

  2. I also believe that acting on the lead measures, the action you take to move the team towards the wildly important goal.

  3. I think the parts that are hard for me to think it is true is the wildly important goal. Perhaps education is more complicated or it is just hard for me to grasp

Why does the author think it is important to know these things?

  1. The author believes that by following the 4 disciplines of execution, organizations can be far more effective and have more things accomplished.

  2. The author believes that every organization have wildly important goals, and by following the disciplines, they can reach those goals.

Impressions

  • I think the 4 discipline of execution is great for individual, teams that are more independent.

  • But when there are shared leadership responsibilities in a field such as education, it is hard to implement as each team’s lead measure would vary depends on what aspect of the students life is being discussed.

Who Should Read It?

  • Those who are team leaders and want to be more effective should read it.

  • Individuals who want to improve their own effectiveness.
