Getting Things Done: the Art of Stress-Free Productivity

Author: David Allen

What is the book about as a whole?

David Allen’s Getting Things Done Framework.

What is being said in detail, and how?

David Allen breaks down his Getting Things Done framework into 5 steps: capture, clarify, organize, reflect, and engage. He first provides the overall framework. Then he explains each step in detail, then pulls in some principles to apply in a personal context or corporate context.

Is the book true, in whole or in part?

There were many ideas that were true for me. I feel frantic when I don’t trust myself to capture all the ideas and to-dos. Another part I think is true is that a system has to be adaptable, which this system is adaptable. It is designed to have the frame, and the inner parts are adjustable depending on context.

Why does the author think it is important to know these things?

People are too busy because there are too many open loops, open ideas that do not feel complete, and it is causing anxiety and stress. With a system that works and captures everything, one can live a more relaxed life knowing nothing is getting through the cracks.

Impressions

It is an easy read, and it is like talking to a coach who is telling you how to be more productive.

Who Should Read It?

Anyone who wants to have more control over their work and anyone who wants to feel the win of getting things done.

How the Book changed me (thoughts, ideas, behavior)

Because of this book, I started to think more intentionally about what I will do with each piece of information I receive. I do the thinking ahead of time, so I don’t have to make decisions on the spot and cause decision fatigue.
