Children often only remember the last part of their day before getting picked up. For many children, the most memorable parts of their day are lunch and recess. So when the parents asked them about their day, they said they played on the playground. They often said that school was “fine” or “just okay.” and “they didn’t learn anything.” It’s difficult for parents to get an insight into their child’s life at school.
Here are 30 questions to help your child talk about their day. These questions are intended to make your child laugh because they are a little silly. Some of these questions are open-ended. Then some questions can go deeper if you give it time.

Who would it be and why if you could swap lunch with someone?

Share a highlight of your day (a highlight is something better than the rest of your day)
Share a low of your day. (a low is something that is the lowest of all the things that happened, so it doesn’t have to be sad or bad.)

The ABC - name something that happened in your day or something you saw, starting with the letter A, then letter B, then letter C.
Five Senses - describe five things you felt today, one for each of your senses.
1 - 2 - 3: name objects you saw today according to the quantities, starting with 1. For example, I saw 1 book, 2 pencils, 3 friends, 4 teachers, and 5 balls … today. Let’s see how high you can go.
Praise & Prayer: what is one thing you can praise God for today, and what is something you want to be prayed for today?
What would it be and why if you could change one thing about your day?
Use these questions wisely and repeatedly, especially the ones that help you dig deeper into your child’s day, thoughts, and feelings. Over time, they will be more comfortable sharing about their day, and it gives you an insight of who they are and what they care about. Your children love sharing their lives with you when they have the right prompt and environment.
